Arizona State Football: Can Brock Osweiler Contend for the Pac-12 Passing Title?

The names atop the Pac-12's quarterback list for the 2011 season include two potential top 10 NFL draft picks and a player that has already been to a National Championship game. Unfortunately for Arizona State, neither of these names will be stitched to the back of a Sun Devils' jersey this fall.

Brock Osweiler certainly is not at the caliber of Andrew Luck or Matt Barkley and he sure as hell doesn't have the flashy style possessed by Darron Thomas. However, would it be absolutely insane to consider Osweiler a contender for the top quarterback in the Pac-12 conference?

Pac-12 Football Breakfast Links: 05.06.2011

*Oregon linebacker Kiko Alonso is suspended for a second straight season after his arrest on burglary and trespassing chargers. Perhaps Chip Kelly should cut his losses. This recruit from Los Gatos isn't going pan out as he expected. [Seattle Times]

*Speaking of the Seattle Times, Bob Condotta reminded us that the Pac-12 Bowl schedule pretty much blows.   Thanks Bob for ruining my Friday.  [Seattle Times]

*Colorado Coach Jon Embree talks about DE Forrest West's departure without really saying anything at all about what actually happened.  Great job coach.  [Denver Post]

* Steven Threet's decision to retire after a gnarly concussion last year could not have been easy.  He was a promising player and it just plain sucks that we wont get a chance to see him next year. [AZCentral.com]

*With its first real conference schedule staring them square in the face,  Utah's yearly rivalry game with BYU seems to be losing a bit of its luster.  Wait, did it have that much to begin with?  [Salt Lake Tribune]

The Half Dozen Facial: This Week's Egging Hits Chow, Threet, and Haden

Alright, not much time on my hands this week as law school has a firm grasp around my neck (and it's only my first week!).

Since I'm in a cranky mood, let's throw our half dozen of eggs for this week.

One Egg: Norm Chow took a serious pay cut to coaching assistant with Utah. What were you thinking, Norm? Here is an egg to the face for leaving beautiful California.

Two Eggs: Steven Threet has yet to be cleared to play in the Spring for Arizona State. Many people (like myself) will rely on Threet to fulfill any ludicrous prediction made for the Sun Devils in 2011. These eggs are for you and me until he is cleared.

Three Eggs: USC hosted an "Agent Awareness" summit this past week. While this is great since agent interaction seems to be a problem in Southern California, this reeks of irony and of the three eggs that I just threw at Pat Haden for trying to seem like the good guy in all of this.
